The World Health Organization considers that the blockade is not the best scenario for the fight against the coronavirus.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Hans Kluge, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, affirmed the need for softer restrictions.

According to him, the confinement that he operated in the spring, although it reduced the impact of the virus, also caused damage to many people.

«In March and April in Europe, we left out of focus, for example, people with mental health problems and gender-based violence. We know that in any emergency domestic violence increases. So if you have a total lockout, this is not the best situation at all, ”Kluge said.

He highlighted that compliance with the recommendations remains a key issue.

«Responsibility and use of masks in public places and in other places with a large influx of people, especially if there are people in these spaces who do not fit into their so-called “bubble”. (close communication environment – ed.), and when physical distancing cannot be guaranteed. And, of course, try to avoid crowded places, ”he added.

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to tighten the quarantine in Ukraine from January 8 to 24 inclusive.

During the strict quarantine period, work will be prohibited:

  • cafes, restaurants and bars (except for delivery and take out);
  • non-food stores;
  • cinemas, fitness clubs, gyms, theaters, and shopping and entertainment centers;
  • educational institutions, except kindergartens;
  • Massive events.
