Accused of separatism, the former mayor of Slavyansk, Nelya Shtepa, is standing in the second round of the mayoral elections. More than 23% of the votes were cast.
This is evidenced by the data from the exit poll conducted by the System’s analysis bureau.
In the second round, the former mayor, with a score of 23.1%, will meet with the current mayor, Vadim Lyakh, for whom 34.8% of the population voted.
In addition, the results of the rest of the candidates are as follows:
- Pavel Pridvorov – 20.7%
- Olga Altunina – 17.6%
- Andrey Sekletsov – 2.6%
- Eugene Nedoseka – 1.2%.
Recall that at the end of September Shtepa announced that she had registered as a candidate for the mayoral elections. She went to the elections of the “Peace and Development Party”.
For example, Shtepa was arrested on July 11, 2014, when pro-Russian armed formations were activated in eastern Ukraine. She was held in the remand prison until September 20, 2017. Shtepe was charged with Articles 110 (invasion of the territorial integrity of Ukraine) and 258-3 (creation of a terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine also wrote that in October 2019, the ECHR acknowledged violations by Ukraine in the Shtepa case. The court found that two articles of the European Convention on Human Rights had been violated in relation to the former mayor of Slavyansk.
Note that previously the policy already announced that it plans to re-run the city.
