The English Premier League champion last season faced an extremely difficult return to business domestically after a hiatus in November for national teams. As part of the ninth round of the national championship, Liverpool at home hosted their closest pursuer in qualifying: Leicester. In a six-point game against the “Foxes” you can expect anything, Manchester City can confirm this statement from the personal experience of the confrontation with Brendan Rogers’ team.

No matter how formidable the guests may appear on paper, they couldn’t show anything directly on the Anfield turf. The “Reds” won a landslide victory in an exclusively “British” style: all three goals were scored with the head, even if one of them was on behalf of footballer Leicester, who cut the ball into his own net.

From the beginning of the fight, the control limits permissible for Rogers’ team began to emerge, at most, in midfield, with rare opportunities to walk to Alisson’s penalty area. Liverpool played in full control, and at the end of the first quarter of the match they began to create the first scoring chances. In the absence of Alexander-Arnold on the football field, there was an evident bias of the offensive vector towards the left flank, but Robertson’s opponents in that area did not even intend to close it.

And despite the assist on his team’s first goal scored, Andrew gave Johnny Evans a corner from the right flank, and the Leicester defender successfully pushed Mane into another goalkeeper’s room, but on the next goal the Fox defense failed in a classic situation. The left-back dribble ended with Diogo Jote’s head, and at minute 41 there were no questions left for this fight.

In the second half, there was only one interesting moment: how many goals scored will Liverpool stop at? Schmeichel, Luck and the home team goal frame did their best to make sure Leicester’s opponents hit anywhere but on target. Even in the most obvious situations, the ball did not want to cross the line, further increasing the excitement of the audience.

But still! They scored the third! Corner Milner on the right flank delivered a kick to Firmino’s head in the center of the penalty area, and Roberto confidently nodded the ball into the far corner. It happened in the 86th minute, after which the ‘red’ fans were able to leave in a good mood to prepare for the next working week. And what could Fox fans do? It’s hard to say, Rogers’ team showed nothing that could attract attention, so they deservedly lost. Liverpool approached Tottenham.

In the next round, Liverpool will play an away game against Brighton, while Leicester will host Fulham at home.
