The United States prepares to impose new sanctions against the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will inflict «a fatal blow, ”writes Reuters, citing three officials from the current President Donald Trump’s administration.
Interlocutors at the agency say an expanded sanctions package will be introduced in the coming weeks.

Reuters sources did not specify which organizations would be sanctioned, but said they would not target specific countries or officials. According to one official, European organizations can avoid sanctions if «will make efforts to withdraw its participation in the construction of Nord Stream-2.
Representatives for the project did not respond to the agency’s request for comment.
In December 2020, the US Congress passed additional sanctions on Nord Stream 2. They may affect insurers of pipelaying vessels for the pipeline and organizations that certify the pipeline before putting it into operation.
Since December 2019, sanctions have been imposed on foreign operators of pipe-laying vessels Nord Stream 2, as a result of which the Swiss-Dutch company Allseas has stopped the laying of pipes underwater.
