The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should vote in favor of amendments to the law on local elections in Donbass, which relate to the transfer of borders to ORDLO. Otherwise, the work of the Trilateral Contact Group will be blocked.
As Leonid Kravchuk, head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, explained in an interview with Strana, the fact is that the law in its current version contradicts the Minsk agreements. According to him, this issue is currently being discussed in the Rada.
It was raised in the context of a statement by the “DPR Minister of Foreign Affairs” Natalya Nikanorova that without canceling or amending the resolution on the abolition of local elections, it is impossible to advance in any area of work in accordance with the same Minsk agreements.
“From what I personally studied, I will say that – yes, there are inconsistencies in this sentence. I don’t know how the Verkhovna Rada will act, but there is an amendment from the deputy of the Servant of the People faction, Alexander Kachura, who also saw the need to make appropriate adjustments to this resolution. Now this topic is under discussion and a possible solution “, – said Kravchuk.
If parliament does not agree to change the resolution, more job opportunities will be blocked, said the head of the delegation.
“Today Russia and ORDLO speak openly about it. They are waiting for us to tell them that we are working on this issue. But then all responsibility will be on the Verkhovna Rada“, – he added.
He also spoke about the issues that were raised at the TCG meeting on September 18, noting that the main point at this time is the extent of the general silence. According to him, there are advances.
“We also discussed the issue of the exchange of prisoners. The Ukrainian side presented their list and asked ORDLO to present theirs, but they said that the list would not be presented until the Rada cancels or clarifies the resolution on holding local elections. This it means that the issue of the exchange of prisoners has already been blocked. If we do not present the decision of the Verkhovna Rada on the holding of elections in accordance with international documents, no matter what we say, Russia and ORDLO will not agree with this. They declare that we are rejecting the Minsk agreements. ” – added Kravchuk.
