The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the destruction of a ballistic missile complex in Armenia. Yerevan said they can now “target any” object on the territory of Azerbaijan.

On the territory of Armenia, a missile system was destroyed, with which they were going to fire on the cities of Azerbaijan. This was announced on October 14 by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

“At approximately 8.36 am, the Armenian armed forces recorded the deployment of another tactical-operational missile system with ballistic missiles in the border regions of Armenia near the occupied Kalbajar region in Azerbaijan … To ensure the safety of the civilian population As a legitimate military target, the missile system located in the starting position out of action was withdrawn with a precise preemptive strike, “the message says.

The ministry claims that “the missiles targeted Ganja, Mingachevir and other cities in Azerbaijan in order to cause casualties among the civilian population and destroy civil infrastructure.”

According to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, several hours earlier, in the same direction, “the tactical missile systems brought to the launch positions were destroyed with a targeted attack.”

“There was no civilian infrastructure or facilities at the points where the missiles were ready to launch fire attacks,” the source in Baku said.

The fact of attacking targets in the territory of Armenia was confirmed on Facebook by the press secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, Shushan Stepanyan. There are no victims or injuries, he said.

“On October 14, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan targeted military equipment carrying out combat tasks in the border area with Karvachar on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, simply on the basis of the assumption that such equipment was ready to attack the peaceful settlements of Azerbaijan. Needless to say, this is the statement of the Ministry The defense of Azerbaijan cannot have any justification. In fact, the political-military leadership of this country is allowed, on the basis of assumptions, to shoot at military equipment located on the territory of the Republic of Armenia and performing their normal combat duties, “he wrote.

The representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry noted that “so far not a single missile, howitzer or bullet has been fired from the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of Azerbaijan.”

“From now on, the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia reserve the right, according to the same logic, to attack any military object or movement on the territory of Azerbaijan,” Stepanyan said.

In 1991, with the support of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh declared its independence from Azerbaijan. This led to hostilities that lasted until 1994. The armed conflict ended with the signing of the Bishkek Protocol on an armistice and a ceasefire, but from time to time armed clashes broke out between the parties. During the conflict, more than 30 thousand people died in the region.

Azerbaijan considers Nagorno-Karabakh as a territory occupied by Armenia.

On September 27, 2020, the biggest conflict in recent years broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry accused Armenia of “large-scale provocation”, bombardment of Azerbaijani army positions and announced the beginning of a “swift counteroffensive”. The Armenian authorities, in turn, declared that the Azerbaijani army had launched an offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh. During the conflict, the parties used tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft. Soldiers and civilians were reported killed and wounded.

Martial law was introduced both in Armenia and in certain regions of Azerbaijan. Both countries involved in the conflict announced mobilization.

On October 3, Armenia announced that Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive, which the self-defense groups of the unrecognized republic managed to stop.

On October 9, during the negotiations in Moscow, the representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh starting at 12:00 on October 10. However, after the start of the truce, both parties accused each other of breaking it.
