In connection with the launch of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NC), Lithuania stopped importing electricity from this country. In fact, this decision blocked the supply of electricity to the Baltic countries.
This was announced by Lithuanian operator Litgrid LGD1L.VL, Reuters reports.
Lithuania is reported to prohibit the import of electricity from nuclear power plants, which it considers unsafe. The Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets is included in the Lithuanian “black list”.
This means that electricity from Belarus and mainland Russia can no longer be sold on the Lithuanian market, which is the entry point for imports to the other Baltic countries: Latvia and Estonia.
As a reminder, today it became known that the first BelNPP power unit was included in the Belarusian electrical system.
Vilnius called on Minsk to suspend the launch of the nuclear power plant pending the implementation of the European Union’s recommendations on stress tests. In addition, Lithuania called on the European Group of Nuclear Safety Regulators and other international organizations to cooperate to ensure the necessary nuclear safety.
