German energy company Uniper will no longer invest in the Nord Stream 2 project.

This was announced by the director of the company Andreas Shirenbek in an online conference, writes “RIA Novosti”. Uniper is the fourth of Gazprom’s five European partners to announce the end of project funding. So far, only the French Engie has not made such a statement.

At the same time, Shirenbek declined to name the amount the company sent to Nord Stream 2 AG. “I cannot confirm the aforementioned investment volume in the project, we have not commented on it in the past,” he said.

The director of the company explained that Uniper is a financial investor, but does not establish the pipeline itself, although it is closely monitoring its completion. According to him, there are no technical obstacles to this.

“We believe a rational approach will prevail, we need Nord Stream 2 to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to Europe. This is a commercial project, it is 98% complete and we expect it to be completed,” summarized Shirenbek.

Earlier, Wintershall Dea announced the completion of investments in Nord Stream 2, which amounted to € 730 million, the organization received a fine from the Polish regulator UOKiK for participating in the construction of the gas pipeline.

Additionally, oilfield services provider Baker Hughes said the US Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating its joint activities with Nord Stream 2. The investigation may result in the imposition of sanctions against the company. A large French insurance company, Axa, announced its withdrawal from the project at the end of February.
