The Grand Chamber of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on Tuesday 29 September will consider the constitutionality of the law on the land market. Consideration will take place in the open part of the plenary session.

This was reported by the KSU press service.

The court will consider cases on constitutional presentations of 48 and 53 popular deputies.

“The authors of the petitions affirm that land, as an object of property rights of the Ukrainian people, is the main national wealth under the special protection of the state, it refers mainly to agricultural land,” the message says.

According to parliamentarians, the passage of the law by the Verkhovna Rada occurred in violation of the constitutional procedure for its examination and adoption, and the provisions of the document contradict the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine.

“The people’s deputies of Ukraine note that only the Ukrainian people are empowered to make a decision on the disposition of a property rights object such as land through an all-Ukraine referendum,” the message reads.

The meeting will start at 10:00.

Let us remember that in mid-May, the Constitutional Court received a constitutional proposal from 53 people’s deputies, who asked to review the law on the land market in order to comply with the Constitution. It came from the People’s Deputies of the Opposition Platform – For Life.

Also in early May, the court received a presentation on the repeal of the law on the land market from the Batkivshchyna MPs and members of the For the Future MP group.

Parliament adopted the Land Market Law on March 31, 2020. According to the document, the land market will be fully operational as of July 1, 2021.
