The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbai Jeenbekov, in the context of mass protests, announced his willingness to resign from his post. He considers that the political situation in the country has reached a critical point.
This is stated in Jeenbekov’s statement.
He indicated that he will leave his post after the country takes the path of legality.
To resolve the current situation, Jeenbekov proposes to take the following steps:
- annul the results of the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh and call new parliamentary elections;
- remove the prime minister and members of the government who served before the crisis, which would create a legal basis for new appointments.
“I intend to legitimize the ongoing personnel changes. For me, no position is higher than the integrity of the state, the unity of the people and the tranquility of society,” Jeenbekov said.
It was previously reported that Jeenbekov remains in Bishkek. The information you left somewhere does not correspond to reality.
Let us remember that the local parliament has launched a procedure for the removal of the president.
