On December 29, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, fired Serhiy Krivonos from the post of undersecretary of the Security and National Defense Council.
In an interview with Focus, Zelensky said that in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine from temporarily occupied Crimea «there will be a great war ”and the mobilization of men and women.
Krivonos said in an interview Nevadathat the president’s idea of massively mobilizing women and men in the event of a new Russian attack is not realistic, because most Ukrainians are not ideologically prepared for this and are not trained.
Mikheil Saakashvili, head of the executive committee of the National Reform Council, called for Krivonos to be fired. According to him, “Krivonos’s attacks on the president testify to the lack of professional ethics and the ineffectiveness of the NSDC as a state body.”
Sergey Krivonos was appointed to the post of undersecretary of the NSDC in March 2019. Prior to that, he served as deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In November of the same year, Zelensky fired Krivonos from two positions:
- President of the Interdepartmental Working Group to Strengthen the Defense Capacity of the State,
- Head of the Interdepartmental Commission for Technical-Military Cooperation and Export Control Policy.
