On Saturday, December 5, in Finnish Kontiolahti, the women’s relay race was held as part of the second stage of the World Cup.
The Ukraine team was represented by Daria Blashko, Valya Semerenko, Vita Semerenko and Elena Pidgrushnaya. After the first two stages, the Ukrainian women fought for the first three, but then Vita Semerenko won a penalty circle, after which she could only compete for fourth place.
Pidgrushna also struggled with shooting, and on the last lap there was simply not enough distance to overtake Russia’s Kaisheva. As a result, Ukraine ranked fifth, leaving Italy, Austria and Norway behind. The Norwegians spent the entire race on the tail, as Caroline Knotten in the first stage was unable to stand and flew out of the distance.
The victory went to the Swedish national team, who fought with France for most of the race. The French women became the second, and the first three award winners were biathletes from Germany. Russia, who finished in fourth place, lagged behind the bronze medalists by nearly two minutes.
Race results:
1. Sweden (0 + 8) 1: 12: 44.5
2. France (0 + 9) +9.6
3. Germany (0 + 12) +43.9
Four. Russia (2 + 11) +2: 31.3
