Finn Kontiolahti hosted the men’s sprint as part of the second stage of the World Cup. Based on their results, 60 of the best biathletes qualified for the chase.
World Cup overall leader Johannes Thingnes Boe was the clear favorite in the race, but this time a failure in the prone position only earned him a bronze medal. In three races this season, Johannes managed to climb all three steps of the podium.
Johannes’s older brother Tarja Boe was unmatched in the second sprint of the season. He hit all 10 targets and displayed excellent movement, nearly 14 seconds ahead of another excellent shooter, German Arnd Peiffer.
The race was not very successful for the Ukrainians. Artem Prima ran a penalty loop after prone and showed the 20th final time, becoming the best among Yurai Sanitra charges. Dmitry Pidruchny made a mistake on each of the lines and took 35th place. The rest of our biathletes did not even make it to the top 60 and therefore will not be able to perform in the chase.
Race results:
1. Tarja Bö (0 + 0) 24: 03.7
2. Arnd Piffer (0 + 0) +13.9
3. Johannes Tingnes Bö (1 + 0) +29.4
