The rebuilding of the Paton Bridge will take several years

After a large-scale renovation, the bridge structure will be made lighter, an additional traffic lane will appear, and bike lanes will be equipped.

After the reconstruction of the Paton Bridge in Kiev, an additional traffic lane and bike lanes will appear, the construction of the bridge will be lighter. On Friday, September 25, the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, spoke about the future changes to the bridge.

Therefore, the monolithic reinforced concrete slabs will be replaced by modern ones made of steel, which will greatly facilitate the construction of the bridge.

“The reconstruction plan also foresees an additional lane. That is, in general, there will be eight of them. The reverse lane, where many accidents occur on the bridge, will be eliminated. A modern barrier will also be provided between the traffic directions. Bike lanes will be equipped, “said the mayor.

He assured that traffic on the bridge will not be completely blocked while the repair lasts.

Klitschko recalled that since the beginning of the bridge’s operation in 1953, it was repaired only once: in 2004, the tram tracks were dismantled and the road surface was renewed.

“The bridge is in poor condition. And in the near future we will be able to design and start work on its reconstruction. The city has finally received all the necessary approvals from government agencies for this,” Klitschko said.
