Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that a blockade in the capital due to the situation with the coronavirus would be an extreme measure. The town chief himself is at home for treatment.

Said this during an online briefing.

“The situation is really difficult. You see how many patients are sick every day, and more and more people need hospitalization. And this is the current situation in many European countries … Kiev is trying with all its might to contain the situation so as not to resort to strict quarantine. ” the mayor pointed out.

According to Klitschko, depending on how the situation develops, the government will be forced to comply with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, if it decides to take severe measures.

“I emphasize: the introduction of quarantine in the capital will already be an extreme measure! This is the position of principle of the city authorities … We must maintain the economy of the city, which has already suffered from the crisis,” he said .

The mayor added that the introduction of restrictions has reduced revenue to the city budget. Therefore, according to the economists of the Kiev City State Administration, the budget of the capital will not receive about five billion hryvnias by the end of the year.

Recall that the Verkhovna Rada wants to hear from the Minister of Health, Maxim Stepanov, due to the worsening of the situation with the coronavirus.

As RBC-Ukraine wrote, infectious disease doctor Olga Golubovskaya reported that the situation with the coronavirus in Ukraine will improve closer to March.

Stepanov also stated that with 20 thousand new cases of coronavirus in Ukraine, a blockade could be introduced.
