Tkalenko threatened to blow up the Metro bridge in Kiev on June 1, 2020, mimicking the presence of an improvised bomb
The court partially granted the investigator’s request, who asked to keep Tkalenko in custody.
On September 2, the Dniprovsky District Court of Kiev canceled the mandatory confinement in a psychiatric hospital for a resident of the city of Vishnevoe Vitaly Tkalenko, who threatened to blow up the Metro bridge on June 1, 2020. This was reported on Tuesday, September 8, the publication Ukrainskaya Pravda, quoting the spokesman for the Kiev prosecution, Nadezhda Maksimets.
“The examination established that he is sane, so there is no reason to keep him in a specialized institution for the provision of medical care,” he said.
The court partially granted the request of investigator Aleksandr Mayboroda, who, with the consent of the prosecutor Denis Spesivtsev, requested that Tkalenko be kept in custody.
The court imposed a number of obligations on the suspect, including 24-hour house arrest. “The criminal proceedings against him are in the final stage and will soon be sent to court for consideration on the merits,” Maksimets said.
“In relation to his inappropriate behavior and suicidality, it was decided to change the preventive measure from detention to internment in a specialized medical institution,” Maksimets said.
