The current mayor of Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes, wins the local elections in Ukraine, obtaining 61.1% of the votes, and is preparing an appeal to the voters on this matter. Kernes’s plans were announced at the Kharkiv City Hall on October 26.

“I was talking to [бизнесменом] Pavel Fuks, who contacted Gennady Adolfovich [Кернесом]… condition [Кернеса] – stable, does not cause doubts among doctors. There will be your address for the residents of Kharkiv, a photo and a video, and most importantly: the arrival of Gennady Kernes in the city of Kharkiv. ” Kharkov’s first deputy chief Igor Terekhov promised.

He noted that Kernes has already been informed of the election results.

“The team asked a lot to take a photo of the mayor, but the clinic adheres to its own security measures. Only one person was able to violate them due to global resonance: Alexei Navalny, who posted a photo of Charite,” Terekhov said.

Fuchs wrote on Telegram on October 23 that he spoke to Kernes. Doctors allowed him to speak for 30 minutes a day.

“We discussed the latest news and events. He feels good. I am grateful to all the residents of Kharkiv for their support. He plans to return to work soon,” said the businessman.

Kernes asked to convey to the residents of the Kharkiv region that he would be involved in the health sector and “find out [главой Харьковской областной государственной администрации Алексеем] Kucher, who put people’s lives and health in danger, “Fuchs said.

Kernes, 61, has been mayor of Kharkiv since 2010. In the spring of 2014, an attempt was made on his life, since then he has been moving around in a wheelchair. In the local elections, to be held on October 25, 2020, he is again running for mayor of the city for the block Kernes – Successful Party of Kharkiv.

Kernes last appeared in public on August 23, at events for City Day and National Flag Day. On September 14, ZN.UA reported that he became ill with COVID-19 in early September and was hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia. Sources in the publication claimed that Kernes was in a coma. On September 15, the Kharkiv City Council confirmed that Kernes was hospitalized with the coronavirus, but noted that he “laughed a lot and very hard” at the reports of a coma.

On the night of September 17, Kernes was transferred to Germany for treatment at the Charite clinic. Relatives of the politician reported that his health was stable. On October 2, a businessman and friend of Kernes, Pavel Fuks, said that the mayor of Kharkiv had received a negative test for the coronavirus.

On October 12, the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Aleksey Kucher, in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon, said Kernes felt bad. On October 13, the Charite clinic issued a statement: “Kernes from Kharkov (Ukraine) is with us for treatment. Every day he progresses and we look forward to his full recovery.”

Kernes’ son Daniel said that after the injury to the mayor of Kharkiv in 2014, he had a weak lung, then a bullet “went through” him. The severe course of Kernes disease is supposedly associated with this.

According to the exit poll conducted as part of a joint project between the Savik Shuster studio and Ukraine 24 television channel on October 25, Kernes won 57.9% of the vote in local elections. He remains the mayor of the city for the next five years.
