British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has refused to extend negotiations with the European Union until 2021 on Brexit.
The Guardian writes about this with reference to a representative of the head of government. According to him, the prime minister thus rejected the requests of the Conservative Party legislators.
A Johnson spokesperson stressed that the transition period should end on December 31.
“Our position on the transition period is clear. It will end on December 31st. Our decision will not change,” he said.
At the same time, the prime minister added that negotiations with the EU remain difficult.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the UK government resumed negotiations with the EU in early December to reach an agreement on a post-Brexit relationship.
Trade negotiations have moved towards a compromise on fishing rights, but the parties missed an important deadline. This increased the likelihood of the UK staying for weeks without a deal from January 1, even if a deal is reached.
