British Prime Minister Boris Johnson
The head of the British government threatened the residents of the country with heavy fines and even the army if they did not comply with the quarantine measures.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, speaking in the House of Commons of Parliament, addressed the British and asked citizens for “discipline and common sense” in the face of the second wave of the pandemic. This was announced on Tuesday, September 22, reports TASS.
“We must do everything in our power not to return to what it was,” the agency quotes the head of the British government.
Also, the prime minister of the United Kingdom did not rule out that the authorities “will have to resort to tougher measures later”.
Johnson stressed that authorities are willing to go to extreme measures to force people to comply with the rules.
“We need to suppress the virus now. And for that minority that can continue to break the rules, we will enforce them with stiffer fines that can reach £ 10,000, send more police to the streets and, if necessary, use the army to support the police, “promised the prime minister.
In addition, Johnson announced the introduction of new restrictive measures for six months to combat the spread of the coronavirus. They will mainly refer to the opening hours of bars, pubs and restaurants, the rules for the use of masks and the celebration of social events.
One of the new rules will be the prohibition of mass funeral ceremonies and weddings. Now a maximum of 15 people is allowed for weddings and a maximum of 30 for funerals. The previously introduced rule that prohibits more than six people from gathering in one venue will now apply to indoor team sports.
The minimum fine for the first violation of the “rule of six” is doubled: from 100 pounds to 200 pounds, with repeated violations the fine will increase.
Johnson also announced that as of October 1 in the UK, contrary to previously developed plans, it will not resume exhibitions and conferences.
Remember that UK residents who refuse to comply with self-isolation will be fined again. In the country, restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic will be tighter, said Health Minister Matt Hancock.
