Candidate for mayor of Kiev from Opposition Platform: Lifetime Alexander Popov, who, according to the results of the exit polls, goes to the second round of the elections together with Vitali Klitschko, expects that more of his electorate will go to the polling stations in the second round.
Departures 2020 – election results
«It is very simple. The turnout is very low, absolute figures, if we count the votes cast in favor of Vitali Klitschko as the mayoral candidate, in total it is a small number of voters. That is, if a significant number of voters reach the second round, more than today, the result will be completely different, “Popov said in a comment on Ukrainska Pravda.
The pro-Russian party candidate explains the low turnout due to the epidemic situation:
“After all, we understand that due to the difficult health-epidemic situation and the problems we have, even in Kiev in the first place, our supporters did not come to the elections. They were simply afraid, because the central government, in principle, did not create anything to provide security measures. And she had to do it, ”Popov said.
According to exit polls, published on Sunday October 25, Vitali Klitschko and Alexander Popov can enter the second round of the elections to the mayor of Kiev.
So, according to the TV channel Ukraine 24, Klitschko got 45.93% and Popov, 9.62%.
At the same time, according to the results of the Rating exit poll on the Kiev mayor elections, 47.8% of voters voted for the incumbent mayor and 8.6% for the candidate of the HLP.
Alexander Popov in 2010 was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Leonid Chernovetsky, and on November 16, 2010 he headed the Kyiv City State Administration in his place. Until 2014, Popov ruled Kiev without being elected mayor.
Popov indicted in Euromaidan activists dispersal case on the night of November 29-30, 2013. This case was brought to court in February 2015.
According to the investigation, Popov, acting in a preliminary conspiracy with former undersecretary of the National Security and Defense Council Volodymyr Sivkovich, the head of the main department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in Kiev, Valery Koryak and other high-ranking officials, ordered the delivery of municipal equipment to the Independence Square in Kiev to establish a New Year tree.
Kovsh, using this circumstance, gave the order to disperse the peaceful rally by employees of the Berkut special police regiment, who brutally beat the protesters.
In December 2018, Popov’s lawyers requested to close the case against him due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
