The Ukraine team is ready to play for Switzerland today, November 18. UAF asks to cancel quarantine for players with negative tests for coronavirus

The Swiss team considers the decision of the Lucerne canton authorities to cancel the decisive match of the League of Nations against Ukraine due to the coronavirus outbreak in the Ukrainian team. The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) requests permission to play today from players who have not been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“It’s a shame. We were ready and motivated to play in this final (the fate of the membership in the elite division of the Nations League will be decided in the match, – ed.). We really wanted to have a sports decision, and not a that is taken next to the field. Now we must accept what it is “, – quotes the director of the Swiss team Pierluigi Tami portal Watson.ch.

At the same time, Tami hopes that the UEFA European Football Union will decide the outcome of the match in favor of the Swiss team. He also considers it impossible to postpone the match for winter or spring, as the match schedule for the national teams is already taken.

“We were ready to play. We did our job correctly and presented a team that only gave negative tests,” added Tami.

The UAF insists that the outcome of the match must be decided on the soccer field. The Ukrainian team is ready today, November 18, to play footballers who are now in Switzerland and have negative coronavirus tests. There are more than 13 of those people, there is at least one goalkeeper, as required by UEFA.

The UAF asks UEFA to help the Swiss authorities cancel the quarantine for these players and allow the match to develop.

The UAF also declares that it is ready to replenish the team with players from the youth team. But for this, UEFA must allow them to play two games in a row in 48 hours, since yesterday they disputed the qualification for the Under-21 European Championship.

“The match could have been postponed for a period long enough to form a new team, as required by UEFA Circular 66, but that decision is the sole responsibility of UEFA,” he added another option to resolve the issue in the UAF.

  • Before the start of the November training camp, Ukraine lost nine players at a time due to the coronavirus and injuries. During the campaign, COVID-19 was also identified in Yarmolenko, Tsygankov, Sidorchuk, Kovalenko, Sobol, Makarenko, and Riznyk.
  • On the day of the game with Switzerland, on November 17, the coronavirus was detected in the coach of the national physical training team Ivan Bashtavogo, as well as in the footballers: Malinovsky, Moraes and Krivtsov. Additionally, the last three have recently been ill with COVID-19.
  • The Lucerne canton authorities have quarantined the entire Ukrainian delegation. The decisive match for registration in the elite of the League of Nations was canceled.
