Belarusian Daria Domracheva is literally a legend not only of her country, but of the world biathlon as a whole. No woman, except her, has won four Olympic gold medals in this sport. It is therefore not surprising that Daria received many awards from the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, including the title of “Hero of Belarus”, and became the first woman in the history of the Republic to receive the highest award. high.
Domracheva continues to try not to spoil the good relations with the head of state, even after the sensational events around the world. At the end of July, on the eve of the presidential elections, when the arrests had already exceeded a thousand, Daria made it clear in one of her interviews that she was satisfied with the current government: “I appreciate the fact that even late at night I can safely walk the streets of Minsk, without worrying about my safety. Not all the capitals of the world can boast of this “.
After the presidential elections, the anarchy in Belarus intensified and Daria, who until then had continued to openly support the current government, decided to adopt a neutral position and called on the parties for a peaceful solution to the conflict, without violence. But what did you feel on October 11, when your brother Nikita Domrachev was beaten and detained during the harsh dispersal of the protesters? Apparently, unlike her sister, she has no immunity, not only at night, but also during the day. Also, the brother of the beloved biathlete Lukashenko was not going to protest against anything, he was just in the wrong place and time.
“I rode my bike on the bike path along the embankment to my mother. When I got to the bridge, I saw people in olive green uniforms running towards me screaming. I was scared, I turned in the other direction, but from there, turning the corner of the building, another crowd of security agents ran out, already in black. They just threw me off the bike and, without explaining anything, they started beating me. Sparks shot from my eyes, blood ran through my head. I was scared for my bike, I have had it for 10 years and it is very dear to me, I tried to free myself to save it.
But they put me in a minibus. There they threatened me, they prodded me with a truncheon. I couldn’t see anything from the blows and the blood on my face. At some point I thought I was blind and asked to call an ambulance. However, they told me they would not call her, the doctor would be at the police station. Also, my hands were clenched with handcuffs, they were numb, but at my requests to weaken the security forces they only laughed and insulted me. They rummaged through my personal belongings, wallet, but there was no symbolism there “, – said Domrachev in an interview with Sport.tut.by.
According to Nikita, they took him to the police station without shoes, as she was lost during the arrest. He was given a protocol for the signature, which he was not allowed to know, justifying this by the fact that it contains the personal data of the security forces. “The protocol said that I participated in an unauthorized mass event. I felt very bad, I had a severe headache, so I did not resist and signed it. The court should be in the Frunzensky district court of Minsk, I don’t know the date “– Nikita added.
The guy didn’t say who his sister was, so he couldn’t count on humane treatment. But, fortunately, an ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. After spending the night in the ward, Domrachev signed a waiver of hospitalization in the morning and went home. But Nikita is not going to forgive the beatings. He took off the beatings and plans to write a statement on the actions of the security forces.
It is interesting that Nikita Domrachev at some point also dedicated himself to biathlon, it was his example that Dasha followed when she came to this sport. But then he decided not to associate his life with biathlon and became an architect. Nikita personally designed the 228-square-meter house for Daria and her legendary Norwegian husband, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The hut was built on the first line of the Minsk Sea in the village of Laporovichi.
And Dasha?
According to the brother of the legendary biathlete, the sister found out about what happened from her mother, he himself did not contact her after an unpleasant incident. However, Domracheva has not yet reacted publicly to what happened, and it is not a fact that she will do so in the near future. He has repeatedly stated that sports should be out of politics. But politics found him outside of sports.
Meanwhile, the compatriots organized a trolling and massive criticism for the Hero of Belarus in the comments below his posts on the official Instagram page:
“Enough to play and cover up the fascists. Where is your conscience? He also passionately kisses Lukashenka. You are a great friend of him. Or are you waiting for your brother’s kidneys to hit on Akrestsin Street? “
“We are proud of your brother! Silence in such a situation means one thing: support for anarchy and violence. “
“Daria, no matter what he did to you, our (already illegitimate) president presented, rewarded, you deserve it with your hard work! You don’t owe him anything, don’t support him and don’t be indifferent! Remain a hero in the eyes of the people, don’t mark all your merits with silence. “
There are those who supported Domracheva in difficult times:
“Guys, you don’t have to pounce on a person. He has never spoken in support of Lukashenka after August 9. Yes, he tried to maintain neutrality, but that does not mean that he was in favor of violence and what has been happening to us in recent days. And now, if anyone remembers, she is in China. Here, a misfortune befell her loved one, and she doesn’t even have a chance to come support her. So, my opinion, she does not measure up to public opinion now. And she will say her word: give her a little time “.
Meanwhile, Domracheva is really in the Celestial Empire, where she, as a coach, together with Bjoerndalen, prepares the Chinese team for the new season. Daria faces a difficult choice, because any manifestation of civic position is likely to have negative consequences. But only she must decide which is worse: fall in the eyes of the people, or ruin relations with the president, and at the same time lose state awards.
Perhaps the example of another Belarusian Olympic champion, Nadezhda Skardino, who reposted a video of Nikita’s beating and boldly commented on it, will help Domracheva decide a difficult step.
“I hate! I hate you OMON! You are weak, not security officers! And with each heartbeat you become weaker and weaker, becoming inhumans. More precisely, you have already become them!” – wrote Skardino.
