India sets world record for increase in new COVID-19 patients per day

On the morning of September 5, the Indian authorities reported almost 90 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection. The total number of cases in the country has exceeded 4 million.

During the last day, 86.4 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in India. According to Reuters, this is the highest daily increase in a single country since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection on Saturday surpassed 4 million: India became the third country in the world to cross this mark (after the United States and Brazil). This happened 13 days after 3 million cases of infection were confirmed in India (and the number of cases increased from 2 to 3 million in 100 days).

The previous record of new cases of infection was also recorded in India: on August 30 in the country, the diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed in 78,903 people.

An outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

According to the American Johns Hopkins University, the total number of infected people in the world exceeded 26.6 million, of which more than 17.7 million were cured, 874 thousand died.
