Tariff protests under the blanket title “Stop Tariff Genocide” in Ukraine continue, despite a Cabinet promise to establish state regulation of gas prices.

In Zhitomir, dissatisfied with the increase in utility rates, he broke into the regional council. People broke through the guards and took over the session room. The video was posted on Facebook by local resident Vladimir Mikhalets.

“If the deputies do not understand the problems of their voters, then the voters turn to them,” he commented on the assault on the regional council.



The protest action on January 15 began at the intersection of Shevchenko and Feshchenko-Chopovskogo streets, writes “Suspilne-Zhitomir.” Some 250-300 people attended. A column of protesters moved to the Zhitomiroblenergo building.

After a protest under the communal apartment building, they moved to the Zhytomyr Regional Council and made their way. Later, together with representatives of the authorities, the protesters went to the City Hall session hall to continue talking about the situation with gas prices.



According to the Telegram channel “Protest”, the “Stop the Tariff Genocide” actions that demand a reduction in the price of gas on January 15 take place in Lubny, Sumy, Odessa, Kherson, Vinnitsa, Mirgorod, Rovno, Borispol, Donskoy, Kharkov , Kremenchug, Chernigov, Lvov and Poltava.

In Odessa and Poltava, protesters are reported to have blocked the central streets of the city. In the photo of the scene, people stand by the crosswalks with banners and flares in hand.





The road was blocked in Pesochin, Kharkiv region. In Kharkov, people picket the regional council.





In Lubny, protesters block the mayor’s office.



In Lvov, according to the channel, the police tried to prevent protesters from passing on the appeal to officials of the regional administration.

According to the rates of 55 gas supply companies, this month gas to the population should be sold at a price of 6.99 to 10.8 UAH per 1 m³.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has entrusted the government with the task of urgently resolving the issue of gas tariffs for the population.

January 13 government decided to introduce a state price regulation for gas during the quarantine period or until the end of the heating season. During this period, the price of gas for all domestic consumers should be 6.99 UAH for 1 m2.

The People’s Deputy Yulia Grishina announced the approval of new rates as of January 19. According to its forecasts, from February the amounts in the payment orders will decrease significantly.
