About 80 policemen and soldiers from the special forces came to Andreevka village to stop the crimes.

In the Kharkov region, clashes broke out during an action near a Roma settlement in the village of Andreevka, Balakley district. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to guarantee law and order, the National Police said on Saturday, August 29.

According to law enforcement officials, some 500 people gathered at a demonstration near the Roma family settlement to express their dissatisfaction with their actions.

“The peaceful action turned into confrontations. Immediately alarmed, the staff of the district police rose, evacuating the Roma families from the epicenter of the conflict,” the message says.

Some 80 policemen and soldiers from the special forces arrived at the scene to stop the crimes.

As a result, no one was injured and no one was arrested either. Now everything is calm near the Roma settlement.

The town’s territory is surrounded by the police. Law enforcement officers control the situation and will not allow events to unfold by force.

In turn, Suspilne reports that hundreds of residents of Andreevka village demanded that the authorities evict the Roma from the village and that the police – to maintain order. After the rally, its participants went to the house where the gypsies live and tried to break into the courtyard.

A police unit got in the way of the people. Eggs and stones were thrown through the windows of the house. One of the windows was broken. Later, the police took the Roma family out of the yard in their car.

According to the representative of the initiative group Vitaly Stepanenko, the participants of the demonstration are demanding that law enforcement officials pay attention to “conflicts with the Roma”.

He spoke of a fight on August 19, during which a guy was beaten up in town. The man associates crime in the village with an increase in the number of Roma.

Stepanenko’s direct speech: “It was a group beating of a guy on Sadovaya street. There are about 20-25 people. They beat me why – ask the police.”

According to the Balakley region police chief Sergei Pinchuk, who was at the demonstration, the law enforcement officers registered two criminal proceedings after the events of August 19.

Let us remember that on the night of August 28 in Uman, there were clashes between local residents and Hasidic pilgrims who tried to enter the city to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
