In the country, from October 16 to Thursday night, local time, 28 people died after being vaccinated against influenza. The first case was registered on Friday of last week in the city of Incheon, where a 17-year-old schoolboy died shortly after being vaccinated. Similar cases followed in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and other regions.

At the same time, most of the deceased are older people. Many of them suffered from other serious illnesses, doctors say.

The test showed that at least two deaths could be associated with anaphylactic shock, which is one of the most common side effects.

Due to the situation, the Medical Association of the Republic of Korea has proposed to suspend the vaccination program until October 29. Experts say that in at least six cases, research has not found a direct link between the flu shot and death. No toxic substances were found in the vaccines.

In total, nearly 13 million people were vaccinated under the program. The goal of the program is to avoid the additional burden on hospitals due to seasonal flu amid the coronavirus pandemic. It was planned to vaccinate almost 30 million people, of which 19 million are free.

As a reminder, influenza increases the risk of death from coronavirus six times. The simultaneous circulation of several pathogens in the body greatly increases the probability of death.
