The Proekt publication was able to confirm the coronavirus infection for at least 376 people who participated in the rehearsals for the Victory Day parade at the Alabino training camp near Moscow. As a result, due to the epidemic situation in Russia, President Vladimir Putin canceled the parade, only one air show was performed over Moscow.
In Russia, at least 376 school cadets and military officers were infected with the coronavirus during rehearsals of the parade on May 9. This was announced on May 11 by the publication “Project” with reference to the sick and their families.
As the publication discovered, training for the parade was held at the Alabino training ground in the Moscow region three times a week from March 25 to April 16. On April 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the cancellation of the Victory Parade and rehearsals ceased (as a result, only one air parade took place in the Russian Federation).
In total, 15 thousand people and some 400 units of military equipment participated in the event.
Journalists spoke to trial participants and their acquaintances from just six of more than 40 parties, institutes and schools. Therefore, the publication suggests that the number of infected military personnel and students “probably many times more.”
The project was able to confirm the following infections in the Russian army:
- Suvorov School in Tver: 90 cadets and 16 officers fell ill;
- Nakhimov Naval School – 100 cadets and 20 officers;
- Lieutenant General Khalilov Military Music College in Moscow – 50 cadets;
- The Defense Ministry military university in Moscow reportedly has 100 people.
The number of patients in the 154th separate commander regiment of the Preobrazhensky regiment (deployed in Moscow) and the Voronezh Air Force Academy is unknown, but, according to the parents of the cadets, we are talking about “massive infections”.
Journalists discovered that during rehearsals nMasking was selective. For example, one of of trial participants The Military Communications Academy named after Budyonny said his box was masked, but that many other servicemen did not have it. At the same time, Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, told Komsomolskaya Pravda that “unprecedented preventive measures” were taken during the trials to prevent personnel from becoming ill.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry on May 10, a total of 3,317 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the Russian army, of which 1,723 – in military personnel of the armed forces, 1132 – in cadets and students of higher military education institutions, 55 – of students from pre-university educational institutions.
In the Russian Federation, as of May 11, coronavirus was confirmed in 221,344 residents; in 2009, they died. In terms of the number of infected, Russia ranked third in the world after the United States and Spain.
