On Sunday May 3, in Nikolaev behind the wheel of a car, the famous Ukrainian cycling coach Yevgeny Shtermer died. He was 76 years old, the coach probably had a heart attack.
It is reported by the local edition of “News N.”
The tragedy occurred on the Avenue of the Heroes of Stalingrad. Eugene Shtermer was returning from training in his Renault Logan car. The man became ill, passed out, but before that he managed to press the brake pedal and stop the car right in the middle of the road.
Passers-by called an ambulance, but doctors only had to declare the coach’s death. The cause of death was probably a heart attack, as Eugene Shtermer suffered from heart disease during his lifetime.
Eugene Shtermer was one of the most famous cycling coaches in Ukraine. He worked at the Nikolaev Regional Higher Sportsmanship School. Among the trainer’s students, about a dozen participants in the Olympic Games, World Championships, Europe and other prestigious competitions. For his achievements in the education of sports personnel, he was awarded the honorary titles “Ukrainian Honor Trainer” and “Honor Worker of the Physical Culture of Ukraine”. He was also awarded the Order of Merit.
