The head of a public organization approached the Kharkov police, who said there was no communication with the city’s mayor and his whereabouts were unknown. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
On November 9, an investigator from the Shevchenkovsky department of the Kharkov police opened a criminal case for the mayor’s disappearance. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Ukraine.
Information on the fact is included in the Unified Register of Preliminary Investigations in Part 1 of Art. 115 (premeditated murder) marked as “missing” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, according to the report.
According to the Police, with a statement that there is no communication with the mayor and his whereabouts are unknown, the head of one of the public organizations to which it is addressed.
“The information is being checked, all the circumstances of the incident are being established,” police said.
The head of the public organization “Youth Choice” Artur Gaziev wrote a statement to the police. He told ATN about this.
According to Gaziev, the police refused to present their statement to the ERDR. The activist went to court, which on November 6 ordered law enforcement officers to register a statement in the registry of pre-trial inquiries.
The Kharkiv mayor’s office said police are searching for a person whose whereabouts and motives are generally known. On November 9, the director of the city council’s public relations and information department, Yuriy Sidorenko, wrote about this on Facebook.

Kharkiv Mayor Gennady Kernes last appeared in public on August 23, at events dedicated to City Day and National Flag Day. On September 14, ZN.UA reported that he became ill with COVID-19 in early September and was hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia. Sources in the publication claimed that Kernes was in a coma. On September 15, the Kharkiv City Council confirmed that Kernes was hospitalized for the coronavirus, but noted that he “laughed a lot and very hard” at the reports of a coma.
On the night of September 17, Kernes was transferred to Germany for treatment at the Charite clinic. Relatives of the politician reported that his health was stable. On October 2, a businessman and friend of Kernes, Pavel Fuks, said that the mayor of Kharkiv had received a negative test for the coronavirus.
On October 12, the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Aleksey Kucher, in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon, said Kernes was feeling bad. On October 13, the Charite clinic issued a statement: “Kernes from Kharkov (Ukraine) is with us for treatment. Every day he progresses and we look forward to his full recovery.”
Kernes’ son Daniel said that after the injury to the mayor of Kharkov in 2014, he had a weak lung, then a bullet “went through” him. The severe course of Kernes disease is supposedly associated with this.
November 3 andthe “Politrad” building, various anonymous Telegram channels and former people’s deputy Igor Mosiychuk announced the death of Kernes. Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Yuri City Council Sidorenko denied these reports in a comment to GORDON.… According to him, the filler is related to the announcement of the election results.
In early November, Kharkiv’s First Deputy Mayor Igor Terekhov said that Kernes will return to the city on December 20 and will host the first session of the city council.
Kernes won the election mayor of Kharkov in the first round. According to the territorial electoral commission, 60.34% of the electors who participated in the vote voted for him.
