In Indonesia, a mutated strain of coronavirus was found

New coronavirus mutation received the code D614G

The modified coronavirus was infected with approximately 40% of all those infected in the country.

Scientists in Indonesia have discovered in the country a modified strain of the new coronavirus, dubbed the “D614G Mutation” in scientific circles. This is reported by the local edition of The Star on Monday, August 31.

“According to preliminary information, around 40% of all those infected in the country were infected with this modified virus,” said the director of the Institute of Molecular Biology based in Jakarta. Eikman Amin Soebandrio.

He also clarified that “additional research is underway to obtain a more accurate picture.”

The scientist recalled that in the presence of the D614G mutation, “the transmission of the virus is faster.” However, the expert noted “the lack of scientific evidence that a person is more difficult to tolerate this infection.”

Representatives from the World Health Organization previously reported that the mutation was discovered in February, particularly in early samples in Europe, Mexico, Brazil, as well as in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Also, two weeks ago, scientists confirmed the presence of a modified strain in the Philippines.

In Indonesia, more than 172,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed to date. More than 7.3 thousand people have died. In recent days, new records have been recorded in the daily increase in infected people.

It was previously reported that scientists associate the drop in mortality from COVID-19 with a new mutation of the D614G virus. They believe the mutation is unlikely to affect the effectiveness of a potential vaccine.
