Former Dynamo defender Brazilian Danilo Silva spoke about his love for Ukraine, Kiev and the former team.
– In 2014, the war started in Ukraine. Were you afraid, did you feel, while you were in Kiev, that hostilities were taking place in the country?
– I remember how it all started in November. Right at this moment, before the onset of the cold weather, my wife and children always went to Brazil and returned to Kiev after the team arrived from winter camp. She did the same thing that time. As for me, I was not afraid of myself, but I was sincerely concerned about the country and proud of the Ukrainians who defended their homeland. Many people died, and during the revolution their number was in the hundreds, and this saddened me greatly.
– Upon leaving Kiev, you brought the Ukrainian flag and embroidered shirt to Brazil. Did you dress her at least once after that?
– The Ukrainian flag hangs in my house in Los Angeles next to the Brazilian one. Also in my place of honor is my embroidered shirt. But I often wear a T-shirt with the Ukrainian coat of arms, a trident, when I travel to the city or to train.
“You have two sons”. Would you like them to become professional footballers?
– Of course, there is such a wish. And, if you choose the path of soccer, I will try to help everyone I can. But I will not insist on a professional career: they must decide for themselves. Although they are small, and I see that they like to play soccer every day. Let’s see how it will be in the future.
– In one of the meetings with Dynamo fans, you said that you feel 50% Ukrainian. Now, three years after leaving our country, can you say the same?
– I’m still half Ukrainian (smiles). I often remember the time I spent in Kiev, I like to eat borsch, which my wife learned to cook. And my children, playing soccer in the yard and choosing teams, do not call São Paulo or Corinthians, but Dynamo (Kiev) and the Ukrainian team.
