Illegal referendum prevented in Kharkiv region – SBU

The head of settlement of one of the villages of the Lozovsky district of the Kharkov region signed an illegal decision of the session on the appointment of a local referendum to create a united territorial community. This was reported to the SBU.

The Ukrainian security service thwarted an attempt to seize power at the local level by holding an illegal referendum, which was scheduled on the eve of local elections. This was announced on October 22 by the head of the SBU press center in the Kharkiv region, Vladislav Abdula.

According to him, the village head of one of the settlements of the Lozovsky district of the Kharkiv region signed on September 21 an illegal decision of the council session on the appointment of a local referendum to create a united territorial community.

“The deputies together with the head of the village decided that the new community, whose center should be their settlement, should unite seven more neighboring villages. By holding a ‘referendum’, the deputies planned to give their decision legitimate status.” Abdullah said.



The SBU identifies people involved in illegal activities, law enforcement officers confiscate material evidence.

Local elections in Ukraine scheduled for October 25… They will be held throughout Ukraine, with the exception of Russian-occupied Crimea and certain territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Electoral campaign started on September 5.
