The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict on General Viktor Nazarov, who was found guilty of the deaths of 40 paratroopers and nine crew members from a plane shot down by separatists near Lugansk in 2014.
The Dnipro Court of Appeal confirmed the verdict on General Viktor Nazarov, accused of negligence in service, which had dire consequences: the Il-76 accident with 40 paratroopers and 9 crew members at Lugansk airport in 2014. Friday December 11, Ukrinform reported.
“The verdict of the district court of the city of Pavlograd should not be changed,” they read in court.
At the time of the tragedy, Major General Nazarov was the chief of staff for the counterterrorism operation. Investigators have shown that they were aware of the threat. It did not organize the fight against terrorists and did not provide military protection. Nazarov did not admit his guilt and did not apologize to the relatives of the victims.
The consideration of the case lasted 5 years.
In the courtroom, Nazarov was not detained.
Recall that on June 14, 2014, the separatists shot down an Il-76MD over the Luhansk region. On board were 40 servicemen from the 25th separate parachute brigade and nine crew members. All died.
