“If it weren’t for the quarantine, the national team would have no problems in the Euro”

Former Ukraine striker Andriy Vorobei shared his expectations regarding Andriy Shevchenko’s team’s upcoming matches in the Nations League against Switzerland and Spain (September 3 and 6, respectively):

– How will the fact that the team has not met for almost a year affect the potential of the Ukrainian team?

– If it weren’t for the coronavirus, then, in my opinion, the national team would have had no problems at the Euro. However, now the club games, the holidays, the training camps, everything turned out to be somehow rumpled, so there will be some difficulties in preparing for the next matches. However, I believe in the experience of the coaching staff and of the boys themselves, who will come out of this situation properly.

– Do I need to experiment with the team in the Nations League matches?

– The League of Nations exists to replace friendly matches, but the Ukrainian team is now among the elite, therefore I don’t think it is necessary to experiment in fights with rivals like Switzerland, Spain and Germany. Yes, rotation is needed, but these should be point replacements to look at newcomers.

– Is it worth setting yourself the task of ranking first in your Nations League group?

– Again, before the quarantine, I would say that the blue-and-yellow are capable of achieving such an achievement, but at the moment there are doubts due to the different levels of preparation of the players on our team.

– How many points will the blue-yellow win in the next matches with Switzerland and Spain?
