Moscow has decided to return to Bosnia and Herzegovina the icon presented to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The scandalous icon was delivered today to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This was reported by the Russian newspaper “TASS” with reference to the comment of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The 18th century icon, which Lavrov received from the head of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, caused an international scandal as it was removed from the territory of Ukraine.

“By agreement with the donor, on December 23, the icon was transferred to the embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Moscow. At the same time, the partners were recommended to use the legal mechanisms available to clarify all the circumstances of this case, including the origin of the artifact, “the Russian Foreign Ministry told the agency.

We recall, last week it became known that the president of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, gave Lavrov an old icon, probably from Lugansk. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry demanded that Bosnia explain how the icon ended up in the country.

Additionally, the Ministry of Culture said that the icon stamp donated to Lavrov indicates that the artifact is owned by Ukraine, but it is not known how the icon ended up in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
