Former Georgian president, head of Ukraine’s Executive Reform Committee, Mikhail Saakashvili, rejected suggestions that he could become a weapon against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said it in an interview with the editor-in-chief of the publication “GORDON”, Ales Batsman.
“Well, with what weapon? Is there some kind of special forces under my leadership, or what? Of course not. I wish President Zelensky many years of successful leadership, I wish him a second term (this means that the first term should be successful). I wish you really translated [в жизнь] what he himself wanted, what people wanted. I am purely human with him very well. But on the other hand, I can only do what I can do. I can’t jump over my head … I have a specific area of work, ”said the politician.
He clarified that he is currently working on improving the legislation on subsoil use.
“For decades, Ukraine did not have the correct legislative framework to regulate the use of the subsoil. Ukraine is very rich. Here, 20% of the world’s titanium reserves. Ukraine has beryllium, lithium, many other metals, it is possible to build nuclear reactors here, but if it is not regulated by law – once again, everything will fly through the pipeline. Until today, these issues were regulated by statutes. Why? Because each new minister of ecology raked under his responsibility (the same Zlochevsky, Boyko, etc.) licenses [на добычу полезных ископаемых] and he didn’t let anyone else in, “he said.
Saakashvili expressed the hope that the new code will be adopted by the current composition of parliament: “Is it useful? I think it will be useful. [кодекс] in this parliament? I hope so. Well, someday someone will accept it. “
