Former Metalist owner Alexander Yaroslavsky spoke about how Kharkiv was transformed during the 2012 European Championships and how much money was invested in the city’s infrastructure.
“It’s difficult for me to talk about the whole of Ukraine, but Kharkiv definitely took advantage of the Euro. We made an airport, roads, built a hotel, on the site that used to be a garbage dump. We built a stadium.” The whole world found out about Kharkiv.
Remember that four national teams lived here: Portugal, Holland, Germany and Denmark. The whole football world was in Kharkov. Kharkov has received tremendous development. A billion dollars were spent: the state spent 700 million, I spent 300 million. There was no such investment before or after.
These investments did not pay off. Not everything is measured in money. Can you imagine now that Ronaldo played at Metallist Stadium and lived at Metallist Base? Either Müller, Platini or Infantino sat in the Metalist stadium. Can you imagine it? It’s like a dream, “Yaroslavsky said in interview with YouTube channel BurBuzz.
