“I guarantee new elections.” Lukashenka asks for condition for re-election in Belarus

Alexander Lukashenko complained that his Western partners are demanding the reelection of the President of Belarus. He said it “guarantees” its implementation when the people “make a decision.”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on November 6 that he would guarantee the holding of new elections in Belarus, when the citizens make that decision. A video recording with a corresponding statement was posted on the Telegram channel “Pool of the First”.

According to the press service of the President of Belarus, Lukashenko participated in the inauguration of the third line of the Minsk metro, during which he spoke with the assembled labor collective.

“On the topic of the day. Some are demanding new elections from us. I guarantee them new elections when they make a decision. I guarantee it,” Lukashenka said.

He complained that his Western partners are demanding the reelection of the president.

“The Germans were worried yesterday, already in their parliament they made a decision for us Belarusians. First they will solve it there, at home, they will solve it. In Poland, find out, it is closer. And most importantly, will they demand that the Americans Hold new repeated elections? I’ll see it here. ” as the Germans will demand of the Americans, “he added.



Since August 9, in Belarus, the massive protests of those who do not agree with the results of the presidential elections have not stopped. According to official data, Lukashenka won them with 80.1% of the voters. Opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya came in second with 10.1% of the vote. At the same time, alternative exit polls showed the opposite picture: Tikhanovskaya’s confident victory.

The Belarusian security forces violently dispersed the rallies using grenades, rubber bullets and water cannons. During the protests, hundreds of protesters were injured and wounded. According to official figures, four protesters died.

Lukashenka assumed the presidency on September 23. For the first time in the history of Belarus, the opening ceremony was not announced or broadcast on television. Several states, including the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Denmark, Ukraine and the Czech Republic, did not recognize Lukashenko’s inauguration.

The United States, Britain and Canada imposed sanctions, except for the EU.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that after the end of Lukashenko’s presidential term, Kiev will officially call him simply Alexander Lukashenko.

October 2nd European Union European Union introduced restrictive measures against 40 peopleresponsible for the falsification of the results of the presidential elections and the violent repression of peaceful protests. November 6th European Union imposed sanctions against Lukashenka and 14 other Belarusian officials.

Lukashenko has already been the subject of EU sanctions. They were last arrested in 2016.
