The Uruguayan midfielder from Kiev’s “Dinamo” Carlos de Pena spoke about his fans.
– How are you writing the book?
“I don’t know if I will decide to give it up one day or not. But I really enjoy writing and reading. I write about different moments in my life and my career. Some things are about football, others about my friends, my family and my wife. I usually write at home in the morning over a cup of coffee.
I read Fran Sol’s book “Madrid 2035”. He gave me a copy. This is his first novel, a wonderful story where reality and fantasy intertwine. Some moments refer to his life.
Footballers are the same people as everyone else. Everyone has their own hobbies and things to do. Someone likes to play PlayStation, watch television, or play another sport.
In my case, I like to write and read. If I decide to publish my novel, I will try to get its translation published in Ukraine.
– Will your book include a story about your visit to Chernobyl?
– I know that Chernobyl is a difficult issue for Ukrainians and a great tragedy that has affected many lives. I came here from afar, but I knew about Chernobyl, I saw it on the news and I read about it.
The trip there is a very important moment for me. I was able to witness one of the greatest tragedies in the history of mankind. I wanted to see what happened there and how everything looks now. I hope this never happens again anywhere in the world.
I really respect the Ukrainian people. Not only because of Chernobyl, which he had to endure, but also because of the 2014 revolution. I have seen the Netflix documentary Winter On Fire. The way people behaved and fought for their rights is incredible. I sincerely admire the Ukrainians.
I came to play in Ukraine, so I must know the history of this country and understand the processes that are taking place here. Also, the Maidan happened recently and it was very important for the Ukrainians, who fought for a better future for their country.
Now when I see the Plaza de la Independencia and the monument in the square, I remember that a great struggle continued here several years ago.
