Hungary became the first country in the European Union to officially approve Sputnik V, a coronavirus vaccine produced in Russia.
The Hungarian National Center for Public Health completed a formal study and concluded that the Russian drug can be used to vaccinate the population, Origo writes.
The Ministry of Human Resources said that the “Sputnik V” study showed that the vaccine meets the quality requirements of drugs. Therefore, four vaccines are now allowed in Hungary: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that vaccination against Sputnik V in Hungary could start next week, Reuters reported. In February deliveries of 600 thousand doses of vaccines are expected; in total, they plan to buy 2 million doses from Russia in three months.
We recall that previously the Hungarian Medical Chamber refused to recommend a vaccine against the coronavirus of Russian and Chinese production, since its official characteristics were not published.
At the same time, the Hungarian authorities in record time granted a limited permit to sell the COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V from Russia and Sinopharm from China. This is attributed to delays in the supply of other approved medicines in the EU.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Russian news agencies launched a campaign to discredit western coronavirus vaccines in order to promote their drug Sputnik V.
