Hungarian journalist: “Rebrov’s results justify everything”

On Tuesday, December 8, Dynamo Kiev will face Hungarian Ferencváros in the sixth round of the Champions League group stage. The outcome of this fight will determine who will enter the Europa League and who will be left with nothing.

He shared his expectations of the next fight. Bence Babyuk, journalist for a licensed Hungarian publication National sport, founded in 1903.

– How do you assess Ferencváros’ chances of a positive result in the game with Dynamo and the team’s entry into the Europa League?

– Ferencvaros played five games in the group stage of the Champions League. The worst was probably the last fight against Barcelona (0-3 at home – ed.). We all know how big the difference is between these teams, but Barcelona didn’t really give Ferencvaros a chance.

However, I think that deep down all the Ferencváros players knew that the most important match would be the away game with Dynamo Kiev, they would do everything possible to achieve a positive result.

Ferencváros with Rebrov is very good in European away games, the team has not lost a single away game in the Europa League last season and not a single Champions League qualifying game this year. Even against Juventus in Turin, he kept the score 1: 1 in the 90th minute (Morata snatched the victory from Juventus in the 92nd minute – ed.) …

Ferencváros will have a chance to win in Kiev, but in Budapest the Dynamo had an impressive first half. I hope for an equal match in which one goal will decide everything. The score is unlikely to be 3: 3, but a draw will serve the Dynamo well.

– What do you think of the Dynamo coach, Mircea Lucescu?

– Your results speak for themselves. One thing is for sure: he participated in several finals, in really big matches, he has a lot of experience, he knows how to win these types of fights. Now his team plays at home and they are satisfied with a draw; he had much more difficult situations in his coaching career. For him, this is a routine job, but sometimes it is the hardest thing to do.

– Do you think Dynamo is stronger than Ferencvaros?

– Based on the first game, Dynamo has better individual qualities of the players. But Ferencvaros is very strong morally and the team spirit is very good. Ferencváros is well organized, these teams are very close to each other. I wouldn’t say that Ferencvaros is stronger than Dynamo or vice versa.

– Are you satisfied with Sergei Rebrov’s success in Hungary as Ferencváros manager? Are you considered a strong coach?

– When he was appointed coach of Ferencváros, at his first press conference, the club’s management announced that they expected great international progress from him. Well, he did exactly what they asked him to do, he won the Hungarian championship twice, last season he reached the group stage of the Europa League, this season he reached the group stage of the Champions League. He knows what modern football is, he has created very effective tactics, he knows how to play against strong opponents. Of course, he is powerless if Barcelona plays, but also in Turin Rebrov’s ideas were very good. Ferencváros almost did a miracle against Juventus. He is a very strict coach and seldom smiles, but the results justify everything he does.

– Which championship is stronger, that of Ukraine or that of Hungary?

– If we look at the results of Hungarian and Ukrainian clubs in the last 10-20 years in the international arena, then the strongest Ukrainian club is probably better than the strongest Hungarian club. But I don’t know if the club will win the fourth Hungarian club from fourth place in the Ukrainian championship.

The group stage match of the Champions League “Dynamo” – “Ferencvaros” will take place in Kiev at the NSC “Olimpiyskiy” on Tuesday 8 December at 22:00 Kiev time.

Sport.ua will host an online text broadcast of the Dynamo – Ferencvaros match.
