On Sunday December 20, in Hochfilzen, Austria, the women’s mass start took place as part of the fourth stage of the World Cup.

Ukraine’s sole representative, Daria Blashko, performed in the mass start only the second time in her career, so no one expected an ultra-high result from her. The 24-year-old player with two penalties finished 23rd, setting his personal best in this discipline.

The victory was won by the Norwegian Martha Olsby Royseland, who triumphed in the massive World Cup start for the first time. She won the gold medal at the World Mass Start Championship last year, confirming that the success was not a coincidence.

Italy’s Dorothea Wierer and Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff battled for second place in the finish circle. The Scandinavian turned out to be stronger, thus becoming the best biathlete of the stage. In the first two races, Eckhoff had two victories.

This concludes the first quarter of the 2020/21 biathlon season. The fifth stage of the World Cup begins on January 7 in Oberhof, Germany.

Race results:

1. Marthe Olsbu Royseland (0 + 1 + 0 + 0) 34: 05.4
2. Tiril Ekhoff (0 + 0 + 1 + 0) +14.0
3. Dorothea Wirer (0 + 0 + 1 + 0) +26.9

2. 3. Daria Blashko (0 + 1 + 0 + 1) +2: 45.1
