The Kievsky district court of Kharkov has chosen a restraint measure for the driver, who on November 7 in the city center ran over pedestrians who were on the “safety island”. This was reported by the Kharkiv region prosecutor’s office.

On November 9, the judge of the Kievsky District Court of Kharkov chose a restraining measure in the form of detention for 60 days with the right to pay a bail of 10 million 510 thousand UAH for a driver who hit pedestrians. This was reported by the Kharkiv region prosecutor’s office.

According to the investigation, on November 7, the Volkswagen driver hit the “safety island” at the junction of Science Avenue and Kosmicheskaya Street, where there were four pedestrians. As a result of the accident, three people suffered injuries of varying severity.

An Egyptian citizen is suspected of violating road safety regulations, which has had serious consequences (part 2 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for prison from three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years or without it.

On November 7, Volkswagen struck three out of four pedestrians on Nauki Avenue in Kharkiv. According to the police, a 48-year-old man, a nine-year-old boy and an unidentified woman in her 50s were hospitalized in serious condition.

The driver who hit the pedestrians was informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 286 (violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by persons operating vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko said on November 8 that a 23-year-old Yemeni national, Hendi Ali, was driving a Volkswagen. According to Gerashchenko, a foreigner in 2016 he received a temporary right to reside in Ukraine on the basis that he was enrolled to study at the Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University.
