The organizers explained the presence of a huge hat on the Kiev Christmas tree: “it takes a fairy tale.” Additionally, critics were advised to wait until decoration work on the venue was completed.

The founder of the Folk Ukraine project, which organizes a festive city for the New Year and Christmas holidays in the capital, Igor Dobrutskiy, said that the hat symbolized on top of Ukraine’s “main tree” in Sophia Square, writes Radio Liberty.

“For the first time we have done something for children. Always adults competed with their tastes, how to make an interesting main Christmas tree, and they did it in electronics. Everyone forgot about the classics, the traditions: the tree has always had heroes of the forest, cones, acorns, mushrooms. Now in this difficult moment you just need a fairy tale, because with this COVID-19 everyone is very scared, but you want something happy and joyful, “said Dobrutsky.

He added that an interactive “magical” stump with its own clock and a small cafeteria will be installed under the New Year tree.

The organizer also noted that the installation of the second hat will begin on December 12, which will be LED and simply huge, 62 meters in diameter. This hat, according to Dobrutsky, “will cover the entire Christmas town with its charms.”

Visitors can make wishes and the laser will “write” them on the tree and neighboring buildings. It is not necessary to be present in the square to make a secret wish. This can also be done online.

In addition, the festive city will be surrounded by octagonal Christmas stars.

The magic, according to tradition, will begin on December 19. The opening of the tree, installed on behalf of the sponsors, will take place at 7:00 p.m.

Responding to the question about criticism of the hat on the Christmas tree on social media, the founder of Folk Ukraine noted that Ukrainians are now very stressed due to the pandemic, the crashed economy and unemployment. And people, spilling negativity on social media, cope with stress.

“The most important thing is the result. In recent years, we have entered the top five fairs and Christmas trees for New Years and Christmas in Europe and the top ten globally. It is better to see when everything is done,” he said. Dobrutsky.
