The Hasidic pilgrims broke the protective fences installed on the tomb of the righteous Rabbi Nakhman in the city of Uman, Cherkasy region, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
In a video posted by Anton Taranenko on Facebook, pilgrims loosen and demolish metal structures.
The Rabbi Nachman Foundation has already announced that they will conduct explanatory work with offenders.
As the press service of the National Police told Interfax-Ukraine, the identity of two people recorded on the video has already been established, two of them have already drawn up protocols of art. 173 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses.
They face a fine of three to seven minimum non-taxable citizen income or community service for a period of 40 to 60 hours, or correctional work for a period of one to two months with deduction of twenty percent of income, or arrest administrative for up to 15 days.
Every fall, pilgrims travel to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the grave of their spiritual leader, Rabbi Nachman. (Jewish New Year).
Due to the coronavirus epidemic in Ukraine, a number of bans have been introduced at Hasidic pilgrimage sites in Uman.
In addition, until the end of September, Ukraine imposed restrictions on foreign visits to the country.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that in 2020 Uman will be visited by some 3,000 pilgrims to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
In 2019, more than 30,000 pilgrims came to Uman to celebrate the 5780th Jewish New Year.
