President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that when more than 9,500 coronavirus infections are recorded in Ukraine every day, the situation of the medical system will become critical. Then, according to him, a strict quarantine will be introduced in the country.
He said this during a meeting with representatives of the Council of Churches and Religious Organizations of Ukraine, according to the website of the head of state.
“The situation will become critical for Ukraine’s medical system when there are more than 9,500 daily coronavirus infections. If we have more than 9,500 infected every day, we will be forced to introduce a strict quarantine. But then our country’s economy will stop. and it will be very difficult for everyone, “Zelensky said.
He recalled that in Ukraine in recent weeks between 5 and 6 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered daily and there is a tendency to increase the incidence. The elderly are the most affected by the disease: this category of citizens represents between 80% and 85% of all deaths from COVID-19.
According to the president, today, in various regions of the country, the workload of beds in hospitals is 70%, and in some localities, 100%.
“We can reduce the number of infected and dead if we reduce the stay of citizens, especially the elderly, in crowded places. It is not only about the church, but also about any venue and event,” Zelensky said.
The situation with the coronavirus in Ukraine today
As of October 19, 303,638 cases of coronavirus were registered in Ukraine, 126,489 patients recovered, and 5,673 died.
The daily incidence rate fell below 5,000 for the first time in six days, but remains at a high level: During the last day, COVID-19 was found in 4,766 people.
What used to be said about strict quarantine
The chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, called the prospect of introducing a strict quarantine “an exclusively reserved moment”, and the Health Ministry predicted a closure two weeks before the moment when there were no free beds in the hospitals.
