Top 10: Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Leclair, Gasly, Sainz, Pérez, Ocon, Riccardo, Vettel

Fastest Lap Point: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

The track in Portugal is not very suitable for overtaking, so it was important for Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton to maintain the lead in the race after the start. However, at first, a kind of chaos started.

It looked like Hamilton was holding the lead, but Valtteri Bottas passed it quickly! Apparently, a few drops of rain changed the characteristics of the track and the Mercedes drivers were not prepared for it. And suddenly Carlos Sainz took the lead at McLaren! The Spaniard passed both Mercedes at race pace and became 1st. Note the failed start of Max Verstappen, who knocked out Sergio Pérez early. The drivers were in half position as the rain seemed to have started, but it was too light to go for the intermediate tires. But the track was slippery and the drivers had to be extremely vigilant.

As a result, the Mercedes drivers got used to the track and managed to overtake Sainz, followed by Verstappen in the top 3. However, Bottas and Hamilton took the lead confidently and Verstappen began to struggle with the tires. Let’s highlight the rather confident aerobatics of Charles Leclair, who came in fourth.

Hamilton didn’t wait long, he fired up and quickly passed his partner. Apparently Valtteri broke the rubber much faster than Hamilton, so Lewis had no special problems.

After the pit stops, Hamilton had a big lead and won easily with his 92nd victory in Formula 1. The Briton now has 1 more victory than Michael Schumacher, and has become the sole leader.

Bottas and Verstappen closed the podium and Leclair managed to finish fourth.

Let’s look at the excellent aerobatics of Pierre Gasly, who in the end surpassed Sergio Pérez wonderfully and finished fifth.
