In hospitals under COVID, 83 thousand beds will be assigned

Initially, 32 thousand beds were allocated for the treatment of patients with coronavirus, then their number increased by 20 thousand, and now they intend to increase by another 31 thousand.

83,000 beds will be converted to house coronavirus patients, which is half the country’s total bed capacity, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said on Tuesday, November 10.

He noted that this is a very critical amount that can be allocated without prejudice to the provision of medical care to patients with other illnesses.

Stepanov recalled that the hospitalizations planned in the country have been suspended, except those whose delay threatens the lives of citizens. In particular, these are hospitalizations associated with childbirth, cancer and the like.

He also noted that the Ministry of Health proposes to introduce the quarantine on a “weekend” to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease and avoid overloading the medical system. The Cabinet of Ministers can consider this issue tomorrow.

On the eve, the chief health physician Viktor Lyashko said that due to the worsening of the situation with the coronavirus, Ukraine is moving into the second stage of the response to the pandemic, within which the number of COVID beds will increase.

COVID hospitalizations in Ukraine were reported to have increased by 80% in one month. 51 thousand people were admitted to hospitals.
