Founder of cult rock band Van Halen dies

Eight years ago, Guitar World magazine named Eddie Van Halen the greatest guitarist of all time.

In the United States, at the age of 66 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, a Dutch-American guitarist Eddie Van Halen passed away. The musician died of tongue cancer. This was reported by the TMZ portal.

Eddie Van Halen’s death was confirmed by his son Wolfgang.

“I can’t believe I have to write this, but my father Edward Lodewijk Van Halen lost this long and painful battle with cancer this morning,” he wrote in Twitter.

It is known that the musician died surrounded by his family: wife Jenny, son of Wolfgang and brother Alex. Over the past 72 hours, Van Halen’s condition worsened and doctors discovered that his throat cancer had spread to the brain and other organs.

Eddie Van Halen has been battling cancer for over 10 years and recently underwent chemotherapy. For five years he went to Germany for treatment.

Together with his brother, who played drums, Eddie formed the band Van Halen.

Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. He is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Eddie Van Halen is also featured in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list.

We will remember, fashion designer Kenzo Takada, founder of the famous Kenzo fashion house, died of coronavirus at the age of 81.
