In the match of day 12 of the Ukrainian Premier League between Desna and Vorskla, the main contenders faced each other in the fight for the bronze medals of the championship, so the victory was of the utmost importance for both teams. Chernigov fell behind Poltava by just two points, so for them it was a chance to elude an opponent in qualifying.
Coaches have rotated slightly compared to previous matches. As part of “Desna” instead of the disqualified Imerekov came experienced Gitchenko. Ryabokon made two more changes to the middle link: Dombrovsky and Gutsulyak were replaced by Volkov and Kalitvintsev.

Everything was headed for a boring goalless draw, so Oleksandr Ryabokon decided to refresh the game by making a double substitution.
In the 73rd minute, Domrovsky entered the field in place of Arveladze, and Kartushov replaced Mudrik, who demonstrated his technique well throughout the fight. Yuri Maksimov didn’t wait long with an answer and released Kravchuk onto the field, who replaced Shcherbak.
10 minutes before the end of the match, Vorskla remained in the minority: striker Ruslan Stepanyuk received a second yellow card for playing together with the hand in one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Ruslan’s goal was not counted, so she threw a sharp phrase towards Ekaterina Monzul. The referee without thinking twice threw the player out of the field.
And “Desna” realized the numerical majority literally an instant before the final whistle. Yakubu made a fatal mistake, which brought in a free kick in the last minute of stoppage time. After the serve, Degtyarev hit the goal with his head and Riznyk, as seen in the replay, hit the ball behind the goal line, but Tamm finished off the ball at the net.
1: 0 – Desna achieved an important victory and overtook Vorskla in qualifying. Now the citizens of Chernihiv have 20 points and the citizens of Poltava have 19 points remaining.
